After watching countless television shows where the hosts were passing up great deer and somewhat disappointed shooting 140 class white tail, I started drifting away from the hunting shows because they weren`t like the hunts I`ve been on. We`re happy with any game we take and the freezer fills quickly. I never tried eating antlers but I`m sure they don`t taste as great as the rest of the animal. We all like trophy animals but we will never cut a hunt short because the animals weren’t big enough.

Sitting on a stand one day, I was thinking about all this and decided then and there that there was a place for everyday people, people like you and I, people like Just Us Hunting. I had friends that hunted, my moose gang, and my wife and two girls, surely we could make a show on that.

My name is Rick Marchand I`ve strictly bowhunted for over 33 years. I`ve spent more than 1/2 my adult life living in northern Ontario and I’ve had 4 registered traplines during that time. I’ve been an International Bowhunter Education Instructor for quite a few years, and a moose hunting fanatic.

I`ve been lucky enough to harvest quite a few animals with my compounds, recurves and longbows over the years and have been estatic to share some of these hunts with my wife and daughters.

Louise is the quiet sensible half of the marriage, she keeps me in line and pulls the reins in when needed (just don’t let her know I said that). She has the cool and calm of a true sniper, which was no more evident than when she shot her 700 lb, 21-9/16” B&C monster black bear, 3rd all time archery record in Ontario. We had to laugh at that as we don’t target one particular animal because of it’s size, and here she is shooting a monster.

Erica is the son I never had, I know of boys that would strive to be what Erica is, energetic, never say die attitude, as Louise pulls in my reins, I am the one who must pull Erica in, if that’s any indication. She has a fantastic attitude, a great imagination that we use in many of the episodes and a real bear killer. Erica shot her first bear when she was 8yrs old with a rubber blunt, as she sat on a bait with me, a perfect shot on a bear she said was 3-400 lbs. I just didn’t have the heart to tell her it was 120 lbs. It was the proudest moment of my life at that time.

Kelly is the serious one, she does what she’s told, don’t get in her way, and do as I say attitude. She plays by the rules and follows the plan, 3 years of International Business in university under her belt and currently in her final year of studies proves to be a great asset to Just Us Hunting. Kelly is one of those rare people that is just a naturally awesome shot, her patient, methodical personality leaves little room for error when shooting, and as with her mom and sister....just deadly on the bears of northern Ontario.

We are as unique as any hunt camp, when we are together in the bush it’s no different than any other group, we all get along and enjoy the experience, we are really fortunate to be able to share these experiences together as a family.
