Alex Dampier 2011 Archery Buck
Joe and Alex Dampier
November 24, 2011
Here are some pictures of Alex with the buck he shot yesterday. It was a day to remember as his high school football team won the city championship earlier in the day capping off a perfect season 7-0, we went from the game to the tree stand and just before dark he shot this nice buck. To say he was pumped about the day is a major understatement!!
A cool side note is that Alex passed up this buck last year from the same stand. We had trail cam pictures of him this year and the extra year sure made a difference - Alex was hoping he would he would give a chance again this year. The buck showed up and took forever to give him a broadside shot but it was worth the wait as the buck only ran about 50 yds straight down hill before crashing!

Alex Gouthro Rifle Hunt
November 23, 2011
Alex 'Moose Man' Gouthro
On Monday I got a nice buck. What was unusual for me (I am an avid bowhunter) was that this was the first time I had hunted with a rifle in over 30 years. Two pieces of Vortex optics added greatly to this hunt. First, the Viper 8x28 binoculars came in very handy in alerting me to the buck moving in the woods before he came out into the open, and second, the Viper 3-9 Power scope allowed me to make a dead shot on the animal at 154 yards. He dropped like a stone.
I'm very impressed with the Viper scope. When sighting in the 243 rifle I was easily able to get 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards using standard Windchester ammunition. I shot this buck under cloudy conditions about 4:55 in the afternoon. With the sun starting to go down there were lots of shadows in the woods I was hunting and the scope performed exceptionally well under these low-light conditions.

Limb Hanger Tom came in quick
June 8, 2011
Peter Wood
The definition of limb hanger
n. a male turkey with long heel spurs and be able to hang upside down from a tree limb branch.
Hunting big gobblers that qualify as a limb hanger is a great way to enjoy a day out.
Scouting is often the key to finding those birds. I often use my Vortex Razor 10x42 binos when the situation calls for glassing fields. Get hidden and sit back watching a flock of bird feed or fight in a field is a great way to keep tabs of a flock before they head for a roost tree.
I returned the next morning where they had exited the field previously. This Boss Tom started gobbling his head off at 5;20 am just as after I sat down from setting up my decoy.
A couple of soft clucks on my GobbleStalker Glass Pot Call enticed this gobbler, two hens and two jakes to visit my Dave Smith Hen Decoy set conveniently 20 yards away from where I sat. I was confident wearing my H.E.C.S. camo as it kept me almost invisible to any wary eyes.
Fly down was at 5:55 am. A few clucks and purring on my pot call enticed this flock in my direction. I caught a glimpse of the Tom through my Razors just before he strutted over the ridgeline about 90 yards away. A short ten-minute walk later he stood 46 yards away still gobbling.
This Tom gobbled the entire time I was there so it was easy to know his location.
The two hens and jakes were already clucking and purrring at my decoy 23 yards away moments before I pulled the trigger on my Browning Citori.
A quick score on the bird indicated 1inch spurs, 9-1/4 inch beard and just over 24 pounds.
It was one of my quickest hunts ever. Scouting the previous day sure paid off big.

Update from Alex Gouthro
June 8, 2011
Alex 'Moose Man' Gouthro
Hi folks: I'm having a busy year with my writing (six published articles) and seminar deliveries (Perth, Marathon and the Toronto Sportsman Show) -- and it is still fun! Major seminars included:
"Understanding the Moose Rut & Passive Calling Techniques"
"Aggressive Calling Techniques & Handling Bull Moose Responses"
"Practice Your Hunting Skills -- Shoot With Your Camera"
"Understanding The Challenges Of Bowhunting Moose"
I'm heading off to Alaska June 10 for a cruise and some fishing, and then in September I'll be filming north of Schefferville, PQ for two weeks to get the necessary film for a promo video I'll be making for caribou outfitter 'Jack Hume Adventures'. This of course will involve a caribou hunt (in my case a bowhunt) and that is always exciting! Binoculars are always used on caribou hunts, and this time I will be trying out the Razor HD 10x50 binoculars as this is mostly open country. It will be my 13th caribou hunt - hopefully the number will not mean bad luck!
This will be followed by a bowhunt for moose and then the annual deer hunting. I prefer the Viper HD 8x42 binoculars for these activities. I'll keep you posted.

Afternoon Bow Kill
May 1, 2011
David McQuaker
I took this nice bird at 1pm this afternoon. With my buddy Blake calling from behind a tree we pulled him off a corn field almost 100 yards a way. I wish I had the video camera rolling. He went 10 feet after that arrow passed through him.

Blake Kitching
Love the new Red Dot!

Update from Leanne in Winnipeg
March 15, 2011
Leanne Straker
My hunting season was a lot of fun and spent a lot of time in my tree stand. I didn't kill any big game but I did get a few ducks and geese. I had the opportunity to take a friend of mine from B.C. out for his first Manitoba White Tail hunt this year. That was a great hunt. I let him Borrow my rifle with my vortex scope. He fell in love with it. Once he got back home he picked up a few scopes to outfit his guns. He also made a great shoot on a doe, while he was here.
This past Feb, I was part of planning a 3d archery shoot, for Winnipeg's 17 Wing. It was a lot of fun and we had around 60 people show up to shoot. I finished in First Place for the Woman and 6th place overall shooters. I was very happy with how I shot.
